Issie has recently completed a PhD in freshwater ecology at the University of Canterbury (2020). She moved to New Zealand from the UK after achieving an MSc in River Environments and their Management at the University of Birmingham (2017).

Her interests lie in river restoration and she is passionate about linking science to practice through effective engagement and science communication.

Issie's PhD thesis investigated factors which may prevent ecological recovery following restoration attempts. She focussed on macroinvertebrate communities and used species traits (characteristics such as body size or feeding method) to gain a more fundamental perspective on ecological communities.
